About You

In this exciting, new position which will be responsible for building a new department, we are hiring a Head of External Affairs. In collaboration with a direct report yet to be hired, you will be responsible to develop, lead and deliver Patient Advocacy and Innovation Policy strategies and support high-level external relations for Vifor Pharma UK with political institutions, patient groups and related policy influencers across the UK. You will develop the Vifor Pharma UK position around ongoing policy debates and influence external stakeholders to change policy in support of the company’s priorities and patients’ access to healthcare. You will work closely with identified key decision makers, policy formulators and influencing groups to achieve positive outcomes for all external stakeholders. You will report to the Patient Access Director, UK, working closely with the Global Head of Patient, Innovation and Access Policy. Your tasks and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
  • Lead Patient Advocacy and Innovation Policy strategy execution at the country level
  • Closely monitors trends in local policies, guidance and regulations and effectively strategise accordingly 
  • Provide high level input to strategy development
  • Maintain a corporate political network of local government and stakeholder contacts 
  • Work closely with ABPI to support Vifor Pharma’s business strategy and key policy initiatives
  • Create opportunities for the Vifor Pharma UK leadership team to have active roles in relevant ABPI activities
  • Contribute to a favourable legal and policy environment to support Vifor Pharma’s short- and long-term objectives
  • Influence and mobilise internal business partners and external stakeholders to deliver significant change and support Patient and Innovation Policy programs
  • Build and manage collaborations with UK Patient Advocacy Groups and develop win-win projects with them
  • Be an active and integral member of the business team and collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams to align on business strategy
  • Chair the UK affiliate External Affairs task force
  • Conducts all activities in compliance with industry and company ethical guidelines/policies  
The ideal candidate has a degree in Political Science, Economics, Health Economics, Law, Public Policy or Public Administration in addition to the following skills and experience:
  • A minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in Public Affairs
  • A combination of in-house pharmaceutical experience and institutional or political experience
  • Experience executing patient and policy strategy in UK 
  • Experience working with and shaping ABPI activities to align with company and industry interests
  • Proven record in leveraging policy stakeholders to shape NHS guidelines and decisions
